In spite of the heavy rains and cold winds, the 21st Annual Welcome to Timmins Night filled the McIntyre Curling Club with both new and longtime residents of the City with a Heart of Gold.

Hosted by the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, the Downtown Timmins BIA, The Venture Centre, Timmins Local Immigration Partnership, Timmins and District Multicultural Centre and the City of Timmins, the 2014 Welcome to Timmins Night was another success in a long chain of great events.

“It’s a wonderful night for people who are new to Timmins and people who have lived in Timmins for a long time to see what we have,” explains Noella Rinaldo, Executive Director of the Downtown Timmins BIA, “There are tons of great booths here with things that are kind of hard to find in the phone book.”

With displays ranging from the Cadets to coin collecting and Ringette to Roller Derby, everyone who made it to the 2014 edition of Welcome to Timmins Night will certainly have a few options to keep busy this year.

In addition to the Timmins area teams and clubs, there were a number of service organizations who also made sure that attendees were aware of the services and programs that are available in Timmins.

The YMCA of Timmins was on hand to continue doing their part to build a healthy community.

”As the youngest YMCA in Canada,” said Shannon Costello, General Manager of the YMCA of Timmins, “We are a child care centre with before and after school programs, with three locations in schools throughout Timmins in addition to our main facility”.

Other organizations such as the Alzheimer Society Timmins-Porcupine District, Horizon-Timmins Palliative Care and United way were at Welcome to Timmins Night to help people understand that they don’t have to deal with difficult situations alone.

For those who are new to the city or that may be uncomfortable asking for help, this event was to show that Timmins truly is the City with the Heart of Gold.

Anyone who may need the resources and help available from a number of groups and organizations, the Timmins Chamber of Commerce website is one of the easiest ways to find what you need.

With listings of most companies and service groups in the area, their site can be reached at www.timminschamber.on.ca/search.
