Weekend enforcement blitz results in 10 charges

Officers focused on hunter safety and compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry laid 10 charges and issued 28 warnings during a weekend enforcement blitz in Timmins and surrounding area.

From Sept. 15 to 17, 2017, the opening weekend for grouse hunting, conservation officers from Timmins and Gogama, along with the regional canine unit, checked over 200 anglers and hunters. Officers focused on hunter safety and compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

Charges and warnings were issued for:

  • having a loaded firearm in a vehicle
  • hunting at night
  • hunting game birds without a licence
  • hunting a migratory game bird without a permit or a small game licence
  • hunting a migratory game bird with an unplugged shotgun
  • possessing an unencased firearm at night
  • fishing without a licence
  • failing to produce a licence for a conservation officer
  • operating a vessel without the required safety equipment
  • operating an off-road vehicle with no insurance
