A watermain break is affecting water quality in Porcupine, according to the City of Timmins.

A city notice says the break is affecting homes and businesses for all areas of Porcupine east of the traffic lights at Ferguson Road and Highway 101 East. Repairs are expected to by done be Friday, Nov. 15.

During the repairs, people could have coloured water and lower than normal water pressure.

"It is recommended not to drink or wash laundry with the discoloured water. While it is not harmful to your health, it can stain laundry. Should this occur, it is advised to turn on the cold water tap closest to the source (usually your laundry tub tap) and let it run for approximately 15-20 minutes or until the water colour has returned to normal," reads the notice.

Traffic will also be affected by the repair work.

The westbound lanes of Highway 101 near Ruth Street will be down to one lane. Access to Ruth Street from the highway will also be closed while work is being done.
