SUDBURY – The University of Sudbury has been offering Indigenous Studies courses since the mid 70’s at both its Sudbury campus and other more remote locations in the province.

Building on its success, and staying in line with its mission, the University of Sudbury will be offering two Indigenous Studies courses in Timmins, beginning in September, 2014.

The first course, “Foundations of Aboriginal Peoplehood” (INDG 1116el 22) explores the cultural and historical foundations and will run from September to December 2014.

The second course, “Implications of Aboriginal Peoplehood” (INDG 1117el 22) examines the relationships between Aboriginal people and non-Aboriginal society and governments, as well as that which exists among diverse Aboriginal groups and will run from January to March 2015.

These courses provide an excellent overview of the history and context of relations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada, and are ideal for non-Indigenous learners who work, directly or indirectly, with Indigenous peoples and communities.

In addition, this is also a great opportunity for Indigenous learners who are looking for a first university-level experience.

The highly relevant content and the Indigenous instructors help make the experience a most valuable one.
