Two youths charged with mischief and theft

KAPUSKASING – On November 26, 2015, the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was advised of a mischief occurrence in the Town of Kapuskasing which had occurred sometime between 9 p.m. on November 25, 2015 and 7 a.m. on November 26, 2015.

It was reported that some youths had caused approximately $2,000 worth of damage to the ornaments at the Northern Lights Festival located at the Riverside Drive Park.

Furthermore, it was determined that the youths had also set a fire at the Sports Palace located on Brunelle Road North which was immediately extinguished and caused very little damage.

They had also stolen some merchandise from a business on Cain Street.

Police investigation led to two females, 12, of Kapuskasing, Ontario being arrested and charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) with the following offences:

  • Two counts of Mischief Under $5,000 contrary to section 430(4) YCJA, as well as;
  • Theft Under $5,000 – Shoplifting contrary to section 334(b) YCJA.

The accused persons were released and will be attending the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on February 29, 2015 at 2 p.m., to answer to the charges.
