There are three active forest fires in the Northeast Region, by late afternoon on May 23.
- Wawa fire number 6 covers 0.5 of a hectare. It is located approximately 12 km east of the community of Dubreuilville and is not yet under control at the time of this report.
- Chapleau fire number 4 is located approximately 25 km northwest of Foleyet, it is being held at 5 hectares.
- Chapleau fire number 5 is under control at 0.5 of a hectare approximately 2 km southeast of Foleyet.
The forest fire hazard is moderate to high across the Northeast Region.
Performing yard clean-up?
Consider chipping or composting brush or grass before burning. If you must burn, make sure you know the rules and follow Ontario’s outdoor burning regulations to ensure you burn grass and woody debris safely.
If you’re planning to perform any outdoor burning, make sure you have tools and water on-hand to put your fire out; and never leave it unattended.
Fires are to be started no sooner than two hours before sunset and extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise. To familiarize yourself further with Ontario’s outdoor burning regulations, visit our website.
Residents of municipalities should also check any local bylaws that may be in effect prior to burning.
