Two forest fires burn near Cochrane

One has reached 25 hectares and is not under control

By mid-afternoon on June 12, there are 5 active fires in the region.

  • Sudbury 20, located north of Capreol, was discovered on June12 and is under control at 0.2 of a hectare
  • Sudbury 19, located on an Island on Whitson Lake, was also discovered on June 12 and is not under control at 1 hectare
  • Cochrane 3, located in Peawanuck, was discovered on June 11 and is being held at 8 hectares
  • Sudbury 18, which is located on an Island on Joe Lake, was discovered on June 11 and is being held at 0.4 of a hectare
  • Cochrane 2, located near the community of Peawanuck, was discovered on June 11 and is not under control at 25 hectares

The forest fire hazard ranges mostly from high to extreme with the areas of most concern situated in the Greater Sudbury and North Bay areas.
