Two face slew of charges in drug bust

MOOSONEE - On July 18, 2019, at approximately 2 p.m., members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), entered a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) investigation on Railway Lane in the Town of Moosonee, Ont., which led to drug charges.

Police seized suspected Fentanyl, Hydromorphone, Methamphetamine, Oxycodone, Benzodiazepine (Xanax) and cocaine as well as Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia with a combined estimated street value of $31,000.

Matthew Beaudoin, 31-years-old, of Porcupine, Ont., has been charged with the following offences:

  • Five counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) CDSA, and
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code (CC).

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Moosonee, Ont., on Sept. 3, 2019, to answer to the charges.

A 17-year-old youth from Toronto, Ont. has been charged under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) with the following charges:

  • Six counts of Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to section 5(2) CDSA, and
  • Person Under 19 years - Possess Cannabis contrary to section 10(1) of the Cannabis Control Act 2017 (CCA2017).

The accused youth has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins, Ontario on July 22, 2019.
