Two charged following infant death (update)

Timmins Police confirm the man and woman charged in the death of a 7-week-old infant are the child's parents.

On November 17, 2015, officers from the Timmins Police Service attended at Timmins & District Hospital for a report of a deceased 7-week-old infant.

Police began to investigate the sudden death incident, and a postmortem examination was held in Sudbury on November 19, 2015.

Following the postmortem examination, police continued their investigation.

As a result of the investigation, on November 21, 2015, a 30-year-old man and 25-year-old woman, both of Timmins were charged with Fail to Provide the Necessities of Life pursuant to the Criminal Code of Canada.

In relation to this incident, two other children have been placed in safe environments.

To protect the identities of these children, and due to the sensitive nature of the incident, the names of the accused persons will not be released.

The two individuals charged were held pending a bail hearing scheduled for November 23, 2015.
