Canadians turned out in pretty big numbers to vote in federal election advance polls.
Elections Canada estimates 4.7 million electors voted in the polls, which were open from Friday to Thanksgiving Monday.
That works out to a 29 per cent increase from the 3.6 million people who voted in advance of the federal election in 2015.
Elections Canada is noting these are estimates, as not all polls may have reported yet.
"More and more, Canadians are taking advantage of early voting opportunities to cast their ballots," Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault said in a release. "Having extended voting hours at advance polls gave Canadians more flexibility to use this option. I want to thank returning officers for their careful planning and the thousands of election workers who made that possible."
It's also the first time advance polls have been open for 12 hours each day.
A breakdown of the turnout for Timmins specifically is not available yet.
Election day is Monday, Oct. 21.
