KAPUSKASING - The James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind motor vehicle owners to verify the safety of their motor vehicles throughout the winter months.

Following several occurrences of wheels separating from vehicles and lug nuts detaching, police are encouraging drivers to remove ice and snow from the inside of their wheels. A buildup of ice could cause vibrations which may lead to lug nuts loosening and falling off.

Should a wheel come off of a motor vehicle, drivers may be charged under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario (HTA) or be sent to the Provincial Offences Court.

The OPP is reminding drivers to be diligent with vehicle maintenance and drive with caution.
