Traffic stop leads to nine charges

MATHESON – On Nov. 21, 2016 at 9:17 p.m., the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) observed a vehicle driving erratically on Highway 11 in Taylor Township. 

The investigation revealed the driver to be unlicensed and to have open liquor. During a subsequent search of the vehicle police also located methamphetamine and a replica handgun under the driver’s seat.  

Keven Lachance, 30, of Amos Quebec is currently charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA).
  • Possession of Prohibited device or Ammunition for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code.
  • Carry a Concealed Prohibited Device or Ammunition, contrary to section 90 of the Criminal Code.
  • Driver – Fail to surrender licence, contrary to section 33(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
  • Drive motor vehicle in contravention of conditions, contrary to section 32(9) of the HTA.
  • Consuming liquor in other than licenced premises, residence or private place, contrary to section 31(2) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).
  • Driving motor vehicle with liquor readily available, contrary to section 32(1) of the LLA.
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the LLA.
  • Fail to surrender insurance card, contrary to section 3(1) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act (CAIA).

He is scheduled for a bail hearing on Nov. 21, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins.
