Traffic stop leads to impaired charges for Chapleau driver

He was served a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and his vehicle has been impounded for seven days

SOUTH PORCUPINE - On Nov. 29, 2018 at 10:12 p.m., the South Porcupine detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police conducted a traffic stop on Highway 655 in Timmins, Ont.

As a result of the investigation, the OPP have arrested and charged Calvin Groulx, 29 years old of Chapleau, Ont. with the following:

  • Driving while ability impaired (alcohol), contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) and,
  • Driving more than 80mgs of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC.

He was served a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins, Ont. on Dec. 11, 2018.

The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Remember any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one's ability to drive.
