Traffic complaint leads to impaired charge

The accused was served a 90 day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days

MATHESON - On March 17, 2019 at 5:07 p.m., the Matheson Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a traffic complaint on Highway 11 in Benoit Township, approximately 25 kilometers south of Matheson, Ontario.

As a result of the investigation the OPP have arrested and charged Steven Mazerolle, 39 years old, of Iroquois Falls, Ontario with the following:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol or drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Dangerous operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC,
  • Drive motor vehicle with open container of liquor, contrary to section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA) and,
  • Race a motor vehicle - excessive speed, contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

He was served a 90 day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the motor vehicle has been impounded for seven days.

The accused was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on April 9, 2019 in Timmins, Ontario.

The OPP remains committed to enforcing impaired driving laws and educating road users about the dangers posed by motorists who drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Remember any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair one's ability to drive.
