During the early morning hours of Sunday, January 12, 2014, police officers on patrol observed a vehicle parked on the roadway in the downtown area of Timmins. Upon speaking with the driver, police noticed the odour of alcohol.

Officers subsequently requested that the driver provide a breath sample using an Approved Screening Device. After multiple attempts, the accused failed to provide a suitable breath sample.

Jessica HOOKIMAW, 31, of Timmins was transported to the Timmins Police Service and charged with refusing to provide a breath sample and breach of probation. She was also charged with possessing more than one driver’s license pursuant to the Highway Traffic Act. Hookimaw’s license was suspended for 90 days and she was released on a Promise to Appear in court.

Refusing to provide a breath sample carries the same penalties as an impaired driving charge. Offenders convicted of refusing to provide a breath sample could face driving prohibitions as well as fines.

As always, residents suspecting an impaired driver are urged to call 9-1-1.
