After more than three decades with Timmins Police, a staff sergeant is retiring this spring.

At the March Timmins Police Services Board meeting, the retirement of Staff Sgt. Murray McGee was accepted.

Timmins Police Chief John Gauthier said it's effective May 31.

McGee's career at Timmins Police started in 1986 as a communications operator, and he was sworn in as a constable in 1989.

“Murray worked in a uniformed patrol section for a long period of time, then he worked in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for a short period of time, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2006, then again to staff sergeant in 2014,” Gauthier said.

When Gauthier was working in CID, he said McGee was his partner. He described him as a very solid frontline police supervisor, and said he's done a great job for the service.
