The Timmins Police Pipes and Drums are gearing up to help give moms in Timmins a unique and personal gift this Mother’s Day (May 11, 2014).

Starting at 9 a.m., for a minimum donation of $50, a few members of the Timmins Police Pipes and Drums will visit Mom’s house for a personal performance.

With money raised going toward the efforts of two Pipes and Drums members’ quest to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Pipe Major Tom Luke says this is really the gift for the “mother who has everything.”

In the fall of 2014, members Jennifer Proulx and Liseanne McDonald will travel to Africa to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, a fundraising effort in memory of McDonald’s nephew Nicholas Plouffe, who passed away from a brain tumour at age 7.

“It’s great in two ways,” he explained. “It’s a special gift for that special mom, and it helps a child get their wish from the Wish Foundation.”

He added the initiative has been a success in the past, and will likely be booking up quickly.
