Timmins Police Gearing Up for Operation Impact Over the Upcoming Long Weekend

The Timmins Police Service will be teaming up with police services from across Canada during the upcoming Thanksgiving long weekend.

The Timmins Police Service will be teaming up with police services from across Canada during the upcoming Thanksgiving long weekend.

Operation Impact is a national traffic initiative to save lives and reduce serious injuries and carnage on our roads through increased public awareness and compliance with traffic safety laws.

The Timmins Police Service continues to focus on what are known as the “Big Four” causal factors which are the primary sources contributing to serious injuries and deaths in motor-vehicle collisions. Those factors are impaired driving, aggressive driving, improper or lack of seatbelt use, and distracted driving.

“Timmins Police officers will be highly visible in and around the city throughout the Thanksgiving weekend period,” said Traffic Sgt. Al Richardson. “These officers will be maintaining a “zero tolerance” enforcement approach when dealing with drivers who exhibit these bad driving behaviours.”

Operation Impact begins October 11, 2013 and runs through the long weekend, ending on October 14.
