On December 17, 2015, a pedestrian was struck while crossing Riverside Drive at Shirley Street.

The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle turning westbound onto Riverside Drive from Shirley Street.

The 51-year-old female pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

She remains in hospital at this time and continues to be treated for her injuries.

Following a lengthy investigation by the Traffic Services Section of the Timmins Police Service, Raymond Chabot, 52, of Timmins was charged with:

  • Careless driving (Sec. 130, Highway Traffic Act of Ontario)

The Timmins Police Service reminds drivers to pay extra attention when travelling through intersections, especially in high-traffic areas.

Drivers must come to a complete stop at all stop signs and traffic signals, check for pedestrians crossing the intersection, look in the direction of the turn being made, and turn into the corresponding lane on the intersecting road.

These cautions are especially important during winter months when visibility may be reduced, or road conditions may not be ideal.
