Timmins man accused attempting to disarm police officer after damaging local tavern

It is alleged that he became verbally abusive toward patrons and tavern staff before police were called

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man in relation to a disturbance at a downtown tavern yesterday afternoon. Timmins Police Service officers responded to a call where a man had re-attended a local tavern after being asked to leave a number of times and allegedly became verbally abusive toward the patrons and staff of the tavern.

At one point, the man is alleged to have damaged tavern property by upending a table and throwing various items about the place. A Timmins Police Service officer located the man in the area and completed an arrest of the suspect.

As a result, Adam Porter, 40, of Timmins has been charged with:

  • Causing a disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Mischief under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

As a result of a separate incident while in custody, an additional charge of:

  • Attempt to disarm a peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada has been laid against the accused.

The charged person remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.
