NEWS RELEASE
TIMMINS PUBLIC LIBRARY
*************************

In the interest of the health and safety of our community and our employees, both locations of the Timmins Public Library will be closed starting Monday, March 16 at 5 p.m. for the C.M. Shields Branch and at 8 p.m. for the Main Branch. At this time, the plan is to re-open to the public on Monday, April 6 although this date may change.

This is a very difficult decision to make as we truly understand the community impact of a closure of our facilities, particularly on those who rely on their Library for community space and access to the Internet. We will be monitoring the situation closely, in consultation with local health authorities and the City of Timmins, and will make our facilities available to the public as soon as we are safely able to do so.

During the closure:

  • No fines will be charged and no cards will expire.

  • No items will be due until the week of April 14, and extended if necessary.

  • Book drops will be closed until we re-open.

  • Please keep any items checked out at home until after we re-open. (including Interlibrary Loan items)

  • Items on hold will remain at the Library until we re-open

• All programs are suspended until April 14 at this time.

Use of our electronic resources (eResources), as always, is free with your Library card and includes access to eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, movies, Tumble Books for kids, and research databases. Access to the Porcupine Advance newspaper archive will also still be available. Find our eResources at http://tpl.timmins.ca/online-research-tools/reference-databases/ and http://tpl.timmins.ca/kids/

For the next three weeks, staff will be available by phone Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to answer reference questions, to guide you on the use of eResources and to work through any account issues. Please do not be concerned about due dates and fines; fines will not accumulate.

If you do not have a Library card, you can call us between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday to Friday at 705-360-2623 ext. 8519 and we will create a temporary eLibrary Card for you to access most of our eResources.

Updated Library information will be posted to: http://tpl.timmins.ca/ as it becomes available and to Timmins Public Library’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Timmins-Public-Library-Bibliothèque-municipale-de-Timmins-1560473114173592/
