The Timmins Police Service have investigated 17 incidents of Impaired Driving so far this year spanning from January 1 until June 1 of this year.

For the same time period last year, the Timmins Police Service charged 14 persons with Impaired Driving related offences, which eventually led to a total of 61 impaired related charges for the calendar year of 2015.

This year’s year-to-date numbers are broken down as follows;

Of the 17 incidents so far this year, 3 involved collisions where persons sustained some measure of injury, 13 were alcohol related and 4 were narcotic related.

The demographics as to age and gender show that, of the 17 impaired related investigations by the Timmins Police Service, 14 involved males ranging in age from 18 to 56, with the over half of males charged being under the age of 30.

Three females were charged so far this year and the accused persons aged 24, 33 and 55 respectively.

Traffic Sergeant Tom Chypyha is quoted “These numbers tell a sad story and do not bode well for the remainder of the year if the incidents continue at this current pace. Motorists in general, but particularly the younger drivers, must plan their social evenings with a sense of moral responsibility. Impaired Driving is a public concern. As such, it is a concern of the Timmins Police Service. Zero tolerance is the guiding principle here and we will continue to monitor city roadways to make our streets that much safer”
