Timmins council is getting together tonight for its August meeting.

Here are seven things to know about what’s on the agenda:

Wills + Perkins will be giving a presentation on the proposed aquatics centre. The centre would also have a dryland area with multi-use courts and an indoor walking track and comes with an estimated price tag is $48 million.

Restoration work at the historic Hollinger grandstands is getting closer to fruition. Staff is recommending that Timmins council award the $657,900 upgrade to Praztek Construction. While the cost is higher than expected, staff have made suggestions to lower the impact on this year’s budget.

Staff is recommending ending the recycling collection at multi-unit residential properties and trailer parks. According to a report, the pilot program started with a past administration, however a recent review determined that it infringes on an Ontario policy requiring buildings with six or more housing units to have a source separation program at the building. You can read the full report here.

The arrival area at the Timmins Victor M. Airport could be getting a facelift. Staff is recommending that council accept MSN Consulting’s $126,259 bid to upgrade the vestibule. According to a staff report, when the airport was transferred to the city in 1999 there had been “very little facility rehabilitation” before that.

Superior Propane is looking to relocate in Porcupine and is eyeing a property currently owned by the city. Staff is recommending that a 12.81-acre lot on Hallnor Road, which is an industrial park area, be sold to the company for $8,650 per acre, plus HST. The sale price would be about $111,000. “The proposed location will provide Superior Propane with railway access, an ability to expand its facilities and permit it to relocate from its current location in a residential area on Falcon Street,” reads the city report.

Staff is recommending approving an $80,000 grant to the Timmins Youth Wellness Hub. Because there is not a grant or youth reserve, director of finance Natalie Moore’s report said the money would be expensed to the grants to volunteer organization account. “As this is an unbudgeted expense, the account will show over budget. If savings in this area can be found, this will help fund the contribution,” reads the report.

Year-round residents on Urquhart Road in Connaught have written to the city to propose road upgrades and ongoing care and maintenance. You can read the full letter here.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.
