Severe thunderstorms may develop early this evening. The severe thunderstorm threat will end near midnight. The main threats are wind gusting to 90 kilometres per hour and heavy downpours giving up to 50 millimetres of rain within an hour.

Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.

A period of hot weather is expected.

Daytime high temperatures in the low thirties will begin Wednesday. Overnight low temperatures near 18 degrees Celsius will provide little relief from the heat.

Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and can result in the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high risk category.
Extreme heat affects everyone.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

Watch for the symptoms of heat illness: dizziness/fainting; nausea/vomiting; rapid breathing and heartbeat; extreme thirst; decreased urination with unusually dark urine.
