Three firefighters earn promotions

Ellard Beaven new deputy fire chief

There’s been reason to celebrate at the Timmins Fire Department recently.

Ellard Beaven, Gilles Leduc and Kurt Gagain have been promoted.

In March, Beaven moved up to take on the role of Deputy Fire Chief.

Beaven’s firefighting career started as a volunteer at the Mountjoy station in 1991. He was hired full time in 1994 and promoted to lieutenant in June 2008.

“During this time, Ellard was a member and chair of the Ontario Fire Service Section 21 committee for health and safety,” reads a statement from the fire department.

Beaven was then promoted to captain in 2015 before taking on his new role.

Leduc has earned a promotion to captain.

He started as a volunteer with the Timmins station in 1993 and was hired on full time in 1994. He spent 19 years at the rank of firefighter, during which time he was awarded the provincial Medal of Bravery. In 2013, he moved up to serve as a lieutenant, and was officially promoted to captain April 5.

Gagain started in South Porcupine, where he was a volunteer for five years.

He was started working full time with the Timmins station in 2000 and has also been awarded the Medal of Bravery. His promotion to lieutenant took effect April 7.
