Three arrested in Kirkland Lake home invasion

KIRKLAND LAKE - On Oct. 11, 2019, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a home invasion on Government Road West in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario.

Preliminary investigation revealed that multiple suspects forced their way into a residence and confronted the occupant before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

As a result of the investigation, police have arrested and charged three people. Police do not believe there is any public safety risk at this time.

Jean-Rene Latour, age 47, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Robbery, contrary to section 343(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Break, enter a place, commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Mischief - destroy or damage property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the CC,
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - methamphetamine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA),
  • Possession of a schedule I substance - morphine, contrary to section 4(1) of the CDSA, and
  • Being intoxicated in a public place, contrary to section 31(4) of the Liquor Licence Act (LLA).

The accused was remanded into custody pending bail and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Temiskaming Shores, on Oct. 15, 2019.

Lisa Murdrick, age 42, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Robbery, contrary to section 343(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Break, enter a place, commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC, and
  • Mischief - destroy or damage property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused was released by means of a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, on Nov. 28, 2019.

A 17-year-old, from Kirkland Lake, Ontario, was charged with:

  • Robbery, contrary to section 343(a) of the Criminal Code (CC),
  • Break, enter a place, commit indictable offence, contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the CC, and
  • Mischief - destroy or damage property, contrary to section 430(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused who cannot be named as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) was released by means of a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake.

The investigation remains ongoing with members of the Kirkland Lake OPP Detachment with the assistance of the North East Region OPP Crime Unit.
