TIMMINS - Thousands of people had their say on where a potential temporary encampment site could be set up.
Over 3,000 people have responded to a City of Timmins survey that launched in late February. It's to get feedback on where a potential housing, outreach, protection and engagement (HOPE) initiative could be set up.
If approved, it would be a designated space for a mining camp-type setup or other modular housing with up to 40 temporary housing spaces. The Cochrane District Services Board would operate it. While the province has earmarked $3.1 million in capital to build it, there is no ongoing operating cash committed.

The four possible locations are:
- Highway 655 on the east side of the road before Ross Avenue
- Spruce Street South snow dump
- 110 Feldman Rd., just west of the Bailey bridge
- Pine Street South, past Cowboy Lake
The public comments will be shared at Tuesday's (March 18) council meeting. That's when council will have to decide on how to move forward because the province needs a signed deal by March 21.
The City of Timmins has laid out all of the information online here. It includes a link to the survey, a PowerPoint presentation on the options, and a video.
The surveys are also available at Service Timmins, which is located in city hall.
