If you have a few beverages with friends and family, you may not have to worry about leaving your vehicle parked on the street for a few nights over the holiday season.

At a special council meeting tonight, there is a motion to allow overnight parking each year on Dec. 25, Dec. 26 and Jan. 1.

There is a city bylaw banning parking on the streets from 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. during the winter months.

The motion being presented says that the holiday season is "when people traditionally gather socially to enjoy the company of family and friends." It also recognizes that the city and community partners have a "desire to promote sensible strategies to prevent impaired driving."

Tonight's meeting is at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
