The search is underway to find the city's next Chief Administrative Officer, and applications are being accepted.

On June 30, the city officially announced that longtime CAO Joe Torlone is retiring. Torlone has been in the position for 14 years, but has worked for the municipality for 37 years. He will be officially retired on January 27, 2017.

In the job posting, the city says its looking for a 'progressive' and 'results-oriented' individual. A university degree is required, and it must be from a Canadian university.

At least 10 years of senior level experience in a municipal government is also a pre-requisite.

The role of the CAO is to provide objective advice, guidance, and support to Council, as well as developing strategies, services, and policies that address the city's unique needs.

Most importantly, the CAO oversees all municipal operations, services, and departments of the City of Timmins. Words like 'transparency', 'integrity', and 'accountability' are emphasized in the posting.

The preliminary hiring committee is comprised of the Mayor and four city councillors, and will establish a short-list of candidates. The city estimated the search would take approximately 4 months.

The second step is the successful candidates being interviewed by Mayor and council, with Director of Human Resources Rock Foy also present to assist council on administrative aspects.

The CAO is the highest paid position within the City of Timmins.

The job posting will close on September 16.
