There will be quite the race in Kirkland Lake at the upcoming municipal election.

Three more people added their names for a council seat prior to Friday’s 2 p.m. deadline in Bruce Dudgeon, Liana Del Villano O’Connor and Dennis Perrier.

In total there will be 17 people running for six councillor seats, and two people running for the lone mayor’s chair.

Incumbent councillors Tomas G. Barker, Norman Mino, Jean-Guy Chamaillard and Todd Morgan are all seeking re-election.

They will be joined in the councillor race by newcomers Bruce Yade, Perry Levinski, Bryan Clark, Jim Roman, Kris Lang, Albert Breault, Eleanor Ng, Andrew Snowdon, Patrick Kiely, Kate Clarke, Bruce Dudgeon, Liana Del Villano O’Connor and Dennis Perrier.

For the race for mayor, there remains just two people running as no one else stepped up prior to the deadline to put forth their names to become the next mayor of Kirkland Lake.

The two people seeking the mayor’s job are incumbent councillor Tony Antoniazzi and newcomer Ken McCann.

Current mayor Bill Enouy announced his retirement earlier this year while current town councillor Al French also announced earlier this year that he would also not be running in this year’s municipal election.

For the race of school board trustee no new people stepped forward prior to the nomination deadline meaning all of those who put forth their names will be acclaimed.

The Northeastern Catholic District School Board will be represented by incumbent trustees Rick Brassard and Steve Malicw.

District School Board Ontario North East will once again be represented by incumbent trustee Rosemary Pochopsky.

Conseil scolaire catholique distict des Grande-Rivieres will once again be represented by incumbent trustee Isabelle Charbonneau.

For the area’s other school board Conseil scolaire publique du Nord-Est de l’Ontario, no one put forth their nominations.

The elections will take place on October 27.
