The Book Bin Timmins receives thanks from The Retail Council of Canada

Booksellers across Canada are instrumental in the success of an author as authors are instrumental in the success of  a bookseller. Books need a place to be distributed and poorly written books would close a bookseller.

In Munro's case, her books were excellent. She made the job of a bookseller easy. Promoting Canadian is also a bonus.

The Book Bin Entertainment Exchange is the only independent bookseller in the city of Timmins and employs 5 local people. They have been in business since 1992 and under current ownership since December 2000.

" We are really pleased to have been a small part of Alice's success" says Sherry Farrell. " Her success is our success."

Below is an excerpt of the letter.

I’m reaching out to you today in celebration of Alice Munro’s amazing Nobel Prize for literature.  It is an incredible achievement for one of Canada’s most treasured authors, a source of pride for Canada’s passionate book industry, and an honour for all Canadians.

It was also an honour to award Alice Munro with a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Libris Awards gala dinner.  During her acceptance speech, she spoke fondly of her time as a book merchant at Munro’s Books in Victoria, BC, the importance of bookstores to authors, and her sincere appreciation for the book industry’s support.

On behalf of our members, please accept our congratulations and appreciation for the role you have played in introducing and promoting Alice Munro’s work - and the work of so many talented Canadian authors - every day.  With the news of Eleanor Catton’s Man Booker Prize for fiction, it is clear that Canada’s cultural influence is indeed global.
