Temiskaming OPP Traffic Stop Results in Drug Charges

(COBALT, ON) Members of the Temiskaming OPP Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were on patrol on May 25, 2013 at approximately 12:10 a.m.

(COBALT, ON)  Members of the Temiskaming OPP Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police  were on patrol on May 25, 2013 at approximately 12:10 a.m.   Police observed a north bound vehicle on Silver Street make a sudden turn in an attempt to evade police.

A traffic stop was conducted to check the status of the driver.  Information obtained indicated that the driver had a suspended licence.  Police observed open liquor in the vehicle and further investigation resulted in both occupants facing drug charges.

Driver Anthony GILPIN 18, of Harley Township is charged for Driving While Under Suspension section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act, Possession of Marihuana section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Ecstasy section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Passenger Jody SMITH 18, of Cobalt is charged for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime section 355(b) of the Criminal Code, Possession of Marihuana section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Ecstasy section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Both accused will appear in Haileybury Ontario Court of Justice on July 16, 2013.
