A TD Bank corporate spokesperson has confirmed with TimminsToday that they will be closing their branch in South Porcupine next May.

"We look for ways to optimize our branch network based on evolving customer needs and preferences. After a thorough business review, I can confirm that we have made the difficult decision to merge our South Porcupine TD branch with the TD branch on 6 Pine Street in Timmins in Spring 2017," said Daria Hill, Manager of Corporate and Public Affairs.

This means that all accounts at the historic branch at the corner of Main Street and Bruce Avenue in South Porcupine, will be transferred to the other local branch in Downtown Timmins, at the corner of Pine and Algonquin.

"Branch mergers are never an easy decision, and it was after considering a number of factors that we arrived at this decision, including branch usage. We will be notifying customers directly about the change in the new year and will work with them individually to address any concerns" said Hill.

When asked about concerns regarding a lack of parking in the vicinity of the Timmins branch, elderly account holders, and threats of account closures by east end residents, as well as a timeline of when the decision was made, and by whom, Hill had this to say:

"Customers can continue to do their banking through the TD mobile app; online through EasyWeb; by phone through EasyLine or at any other branch. TD Canada Trust will work individually with customers and businesses to address their specific concerns."
