OPP investigating after report child ordered into old minivan

COCHRANE - On Apr. 23, 2017, at approximately 5 p.m., Cochrane officers of the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were advised of an incident where a male motorist approached a child who was walking.

The male offered the child a ride, which was declined. The child was then ordered to get into the vehicle at which point the child ran away.

The motor vehicle descriptors are as follow:

  • Red, older model minivan
  • Tinted windows
  • Muddy
  • Black interior
  • Cloth seats

The male suspect descriptors are as follow:

  • White
  • 50 to 60 years of age
  • Chubby with rolls in the neck area
  • Receding light brown buzz cut hair
  • Clean shaven
  • Brown eyes
  • English speaking with no accent
  • Deep voice with a slightly slurred speech
  • Black coat
  • Blue jeans

The OPP encourages parents to talk to their children about strangers, being aware of their surroundings and creating safety plans.
