The Back to Life Street Fest is being held downtown Timmins this weekend.

An afternoon of live music is making a comeback downtown Timmins this weekend.

The Back to Life Street Fest is being held Saturday, Aug. 21 from noon to 6 p.m.

Third Avenue will be closed between Maple and Birch and there will be live music in front of Casa Bliss, which is sponsoring the event.

Admission is free. Donations will be collected throughout the day for the Croatian Hall where volunteers are raising money for much-needed repairs at the historical hall in Schumacher.

“We’re going to have a couple of people during the day walking around with a bucket. We’re going to have drop places for donations as well. Casa Bliss is donated $500 right off the top," said street fest organizer Peter Lawryniw.

Saturday's musical lineup includes Jaycee King at noon, Mitch Jean at 1 p.m., Coldwater at 2 p.m., Eric Girard at 3:15 p.m., and Steffy at 4 p.m. Shaun Melanson will finish off the event with a performance at 5 p.m.

The event will also feature a Timmins Tuners car show and the Warriors Kanata - Hard Rock Motorcycle Club, and Diamond in the Rough will be doing $20 tattoos.

The name of the street fest — Back to Life — sums up the reason for it.

"It’s to get back out of your house, come and enjoy some free music outside and start getting used to being outside at little street fests, sidewalk sales and stuff like that,” he said.

"A lot of people do seem to be excited. I’ve seen people commenting online, they’re making plans with other people. Groups of people are deciding when they’re going to go together."

If all goes smoothly, Lawyrniw said the goal is to have a street fest twice a year and "make it a little bit better, a little bit bigger every time."

Masks are required for people going into the stores. In the street, people are asked to respect social distancing rules.
