The results are in for the first day of sales for the 2018 Stars and Thunder music festival in Timmins.

A ticket pre-sale yesterday (Nov. 16) for Timmins residents saw about $500,000 in sales. Last year on the first day, more than $1.9 million was sold.

According to the City of Timmins, the biggest demand for the 2018 festival is VIP passes, with more than 750 purchased yesterday.

“We are happy with the first day of sales, especially in the VIP area,” said Mayor Steve Black in a news release. “Over 65 per cent of the tickets bought on day one were for the VIP area. We expected to see a high demand in the VIP area this year based on last year’s event and feedback, and we believe this will continue once out of town purchasers start buying tickets.”

He said they anticipated day-one sales would be down from last year.

“However, selling a half a million dollars of tickets on the first day of sales in Timmins is a strong start to 2018 sales in relation to many festivals around the province, and we are happy to see the early support. We expect to see sales continue throughout December as we approach Christmas and thank everyone who has bought their tickets already for their support! Sponsorships are also off to a great start and we have already more than doubled our sponsorships from last year with another big announcement anticipated in December,” he stated.

Despite a snowy day, there was a small group of people who lined up to be the first to get their hands on tickets at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex.

For the second year in a row, Line Levasseur was the first music fan through the door to pick up VIP tickets.

Stars and Thunder 2018 runs from June 24 to July 1. The headliner for the Canada Day concert is Bryan Adams, with Our Lady Peace, Matthew Good and Sons of Maxwell also playing that day.

A full list of the lineup is available here.

Ticket sales opened up to the rest of the world today at noon.

People buying tickets yesterday and today will be entered into a draw to win one of 10 meet-and-greet packages, or one of 25 free 2018 festival T-shirts.

Tickets can be bought online at starsandthunder.com or in person at City Hall.
