Roland Michener alumni are getting out their dancing shoes and readying for a trip down memory lane.

There's still time to register for the RMSS 50th Anniversary Alumni Spring Fling being held June 8 at the South Porcupine high school.

The RMSS school council and alumni committee are putting on the one-day event open to all graduates.

It's been about a decade since there was a full-blown reunion.

While principal Kirsten Elvestad said this isn't a full reunion and is more to celebrate the school's 50th anniversary, they are still anticipating about 500 people to attend.

“Michener is such a community school and we have such a rich history of tradition that it’s fun to get people together. We have a lot of successful graduates, a lot of proud graduates proud to be from Roland Michener and it’s exciting for everyone to come back and celebrate together,” she said.

Elvestad said graduates from the '70s and '90s have been the two biggest decades signing up.

“So far we have people coming from out west, lots from down south...people are making the trip,” she said, adding former staff have been reaching out as well.

All of the action is taking place at the school.

The fun kicks off at noon when there will be a barbecue, activities, house challenges, and school tours.

“We are going to do a scavenger hunt in some of the odd ball places that maybe people weren’t allowed to go before,” said Elvestad.

An alumni basketball game will be on the court in the afternoon as well.

From 6 - 8 p.m. there is a happy hour, and a retro Much Music Video Dance runs from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. There will be a cash bar and shuttles home.

If you want to get your hands on some Rebel merch, there will be some for sale too.

The cost is $20 before May Run (May 17) and $30 each after.

Goldcorp is sponsoring the event, and Elvestad said any proceeds are for the new school bus and school promotion.
