Speakers Series to educate seniors and caregivers on elder abuse

On Sept. 18, at 9:30 a.m., St. Mary’s Gardens Seniors Speakers Series will provide information on elder abuse.

“The senior population in Canada is expected to increase rapidly in the next 10 years,” said Dawna Carrier, Community Relations Coordinator at St. Mary’s Gardens, “unfortunately, so too will the cases of elder abuse. This session will provide information to help identify the signs and symptoms of elder abuse and provide resources for reporting and support.”

Josée Miljours, Regional Elder Abuse Consultant, will discuss the different types of abuse. She will provide information on how to protect yourself by staying informed and knowing your rights.

Seniors, family members, and caregivers are invited to attend. Admission is free. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited.

St. Mary’s Gardens is located on Pine Street North across from the 101 Mall. St. Mary’s Gardens will feature different speakers every three to four weeks, covering a variety of topics from financial and estate planning to fraud prevention and health.
