A winter tradition is coming back this year.

The South Porcupine Winter Carnival is slated for Feb. 7 - 9.

At this week's council meeting, road closures for the annual event were approved.

Legion Drive will be closed between Shamrock and Bloor Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9.

In a letter to council, the East End Community Pride Association's Joanne Hagger-Perritt said the closures are to ensure the safety of children and families at the events.

A fireworks show is also planned.

Hagger-Perritt's letter notes the short display will be set off behind Northern College Sunday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m.
