The splash pad in South Porcupine is closed for upgrades.

The closure is effective today (May 18) and is expected to last until mid-July.

Earlier this year, Timmins council awarded the $394,875 contract to Diamond Head Sprinklers Inc. from Elmvale.

According to the announcement on the city's website, the new splash pad will have a northern and mining theme.

"It will be comprised of 22 features designed for children of all ages and abilities that encourage both interactive and individual play. It will also have an anti-slip rubberized surface for safety," reads the notice.

The work includes removing the existing equipment and brick, excavating and filling the area with proper fill, and installing a new concrete base and splash pad equipment.

Access to the rest of the White Waterfront Conservation Area and beach are not affected by the closure.
