The splash pad in South Porcupine is being replaced.

Tuesday, Timmins council awarded the $394,875 contract to Diamond Head Sprinklers Inc. from Elmvale.

The work includes removing the existing equipment and brick, excavating and filling the area with proper fill, and installing a new concrete base and splash pad equipment, according to the staff report.

The item was up for discussion at the last council meeting in March but was deferred at the request of Coun. John Curley.

At last night's meeting, Gerry Paquette said the current splash pad was built around 2000 and needs to be replaced.

Eleven submissions were received and ranged in price from $359,000 to $432,500. The project was originally tendered in September 2020. Due to COVID concerns, the request for proposal was put on hold until this year, reads the report.

Some companies submitted multiple bids. Paquette said this was allowed under the RFP and bids were for different designs and associated prices.

It's not known when the work will start.

Paquette said the timeline for the work is about eight weeks. Now that the contract has been awarded, staff can talk to the company to firm up a schedule.
