St. Joseph School is closed because of a plumbing and sewer issue.

The emergency closure of the South Porcupine school is effective today (March 4) at 1 p.m. It will also be closed to all students and staff tomorrow, according to the Northeastern Catholic District School Board.

It is expected in-class learning will return Monday, March 8.

"This emergency closure is due to a plumbing and sewer issue that cannot be rectified immediately. Staff is in the process of contacting parents/guardians to pick up their children as soon as possible. Any students remaining at school at the end of today will be  dismissed as per usual (taking the bus, walking)," reads the news release.

Staff is working to prepare students for remote learning on Friday, March 5.

"Students should arrive home today with their technology," said the board.

"We will keep families posted with more information as it becomes available."
