South Porcupine man faces assault, weapons charges

The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man stemming from an altercation in South Porcupine during the evening hours of Sunday, March 24.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers attended a Crawford Street apartment building and located a 55-year-old male person who had sustained injury stemming from an altercation where an edged weapon was allegedly used in the assault on the man.

The investigation revealed that a verbal argument escalated into a violent altercation with the use of a weapon.

The suspect was identified and located and arrested by the Timmins Police Service a short while later.

As a result of the incident, Edward Raymond Hill, 61, of South Porcupine, has been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused remains in police custody and is currently awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

The assaulted man was treated by responding EMS personnel and declined further medical treatment.
