City workers have begun replacing street signs in the downtown areas of Timmins and South Porcupine this week.

The new signs feature a deep red design, larger lettering, address numbers, and updated logos.

The signs were approved by the previous city council, preceding the group elected in the fall elections of 2014.

In May of 2015, Director of Public Works and Engineering Luc Duval gave a presentation to council and showed off samples of the signage.

The new red signs will be only be implemented in BIA (Business Improvement Association) areas.

The standard green street signs will remain in all other parts of the city.
