For the first time this season, some Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Club (OFSC) trails are open in Timmins.

"With recent cold weather, some new snow and with hundreds of hours of volunteer time in packing and grooming, a number of Timmins and District 14 trails are now available in a limited capacity," according to a Timmins Snowmobile Club announcement.

In Timmins and Iroquois Falls the trails that can be accessed are listed as limited availability. There are green trails with full access in the Cochrane and Kapuskasing areas.

"All snowmobiles displaying a valid Snowmobile Trail Permit in the proper location now have access to a system of OFSC Prescribed snowmobile trails suitable for the use of safe and prudent operators and passengers," reads the announcement.

There is currently a provincial state of emergency and stay-at-home order in effect.

Snowmobiling is a permitted recreational activity if participants comply with the public health directives, according to OFSC news release.

"So, snowmobilers with valid trail permits are permitted to access any available (green) or limited availability (yellow) trails at this time, but only within the context of the provisions of the stay-at-home order that allows local recreational exercise from your primary residence," it reads.
