Snowstorm prompts area closures and cancellations

The snowstorm blowing through the area is affecting local programs.

A snowfall warning is in effect for Timmins and the surrounding area, with 15 to 25 centimetres of snow expected.

The following cancellations and closures have been announced. This list will be updated as more information becomes available. If you have a closure or cancellation to announce, please send an email to [email protected]

• All late afternoon and evening classes are cancelled at the Timmins campus of Algoma University. According to the school, only essential personnel such as security and custodial staff should report to work. Classes are expected to resume tomorrow. 

• All games for the TMHA, PMHA, SDMHA, and TDGHA are cancelled. All TMHA association practices have also been cancelled. 

• With school buses being cancelled, community use of school permits are also cancelled.

• The McIntyre Curling Club has cancelled its evening draw.

• All NDAD dance classes are cancelled tonight.

• Waste and recyling pickup in the Connaught area is being postponed. According to the City of Timmins, the areas affected are Highway 101 East from Moose Creek bridge to Gibson Road. Carts not collected today should be put curbside by 7:30 a.m. Feb. 28. 

• PPSD dance classes are cancelled tonight.

• La Ronde Dance School/Danson Laronde is cancelled.

• All Timmins Selects basketball activities are cancelled.

• Due to the weather conditions, Fabricland is closing at 6:30 p.m.

• The Timmins Rock's road game against the Cochrane Crunch has been cancelled and will be played tomorrow (Feb. 28) instead.

• Jackpot City Timmins closed at 3:30 p.m. due to the weather.
