Snowmobiler dead after collision with logging truck

COCHRANE - On Mar. 15, 2017, at 12:27 p.m., the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a logging road off of Highway 579, for a collision involving a snowmobile and a logging truck.

Investigation has revealed that a group of snowmobilers were travelling northbound on the logging road when they encountered a southbound logging truck at a curve in the roadway.

The first snowmobile made it safely by the logging truck. The second snowmobile, crossed in front of the logging truck.

The driver of the logging truck made an attempt to avoid a collision when the snowmobile collided with the trailer. Doug Walker, 34 years of age of Wyoming, Ontario was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators have been deployed to assist in this investigation which is on-going at this time.
