At 3:30 this afternoon, officers from the Timmins Police Service were conducting traffic control in the area of the Timmins Library and the HGS building on Second Ave. between Spruce Street and Brunette Road.

One of the officers had stopped a yellow Skidoo MX that was operating on Second Ave.

When the officer approached the driver of the Skidoo, the driver attempted to flee from the officer.

When the snowmobile accelerated, the officer's jacket became caught on the handle bars and the officer was dragged from their position in front of the main entrance of the Library to the corner of Second Avenue and Brunette Road, a distance of approximately 100 metres.

Additional officers responded immediately and were able to detain the driver of the snowmobile.

According to Kate Cantin, corporate communications coordinator for the Timmins Police Service, the officer who was dragged sustained only minor injuries in the incident.

At this time, the incident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
