Heavy rains in the Timmins area on Wednesday caused flooding in various parts of the city as well as contributing to a sinkhole on Highway 101 east.

The sinkhole incident occurred in the early evening in South Porcupine.

An OPP cruiser soon arrived on the scene to place hazard cones near the site and blocked the right lane of eastbound traffic.

City of Timmins crew members were alerted and quickly arrived on the scene.

A crew member told TimminsToday that he estimates the sink hole was 6 feet deep.

A backhoe arrived soon at the scene and removed a large section of pavement. Additional city workers brought a dump truck of dirt to fill the hole.

Work on the site continues at this hour.
