Sikh community marks Maghi festival (3 photos)

Everyone is welcome to stop by for some tea and food

Local members of the Sikh community have been gathering at the Timmins Gurdwara today to celebrate Maghi.

Maghi is marked on the first day of Magh, which is a month in the Hindu calendar. For Sikhs, it's a commemoration of 40 Sikh martyrs who sacrificed their lives while fighting for Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Sikh master.

On this day, Sikhs usually gather at local Gurdwaras.

There will be a prayer and dinner starting at 6:30 p.m. today at the Timmins Gurdwara. Everyone is welcome to stop by for some tea and food.
